Dr. Perman is a Distinguished Life Fellow of The American Psychiatric Association, and a Psychiatric Fellow (PF) and Editor of The Academy Forum for the American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry, where he also serves as Secretary.

He is a Clinical Professor in the Department of Psychiatry and the Behavioral Sciences at The George Washington University Medical Center, Washington, D.C., where he also is Supervisor of Psychiatric Residents.

A Past President of The American Society of Psychoanalytic Physicians, Dr. Perman also serves on the Physicians Health Committee of the Medical Society of the District of Columbia.


Publications

Dr. Perman has authored or co-authored a number of articles, book reviews and research and scholarly papers.


He currently serves on the Editorial Board for Pyschodynamic Psychiatry, a publication of the American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry, and as Editor of AAPDP’s Academy Forum. He also has served as Editor of the Bulletin of the American Society of Psychoanalytic Physicians.


Honors & Awards

Dr. Perman has received a number of honors and awards throughout his career, including the Elaine Cotlove, M.D. Award for Excellence in Teaching George Washington University Medical Students (George Washington University Department of Psychiatry, June 2004) and the Nancy C.A. Roeske, M.D. Certificate of Excellence in Psychiatric Education (American Psychiatric Association, May 2006).
